BIO

With a fresh yet nostalgic perspective on alternative pop, Montreal’s Caveboy root themselves in the timeless music of their parent’s generation and build to unforgettable chaos during their live performances. The all-womxn trio’s first few years were driven by electrifying performances at SXSW, Osheaga, Pride Toronto, the Pre-Grammy Celebration of Canadian Excellence, 2018 Juno Gala Awards, Halifax Pop Explosion, M for Montreal, and support performances for Japanese Breakfast, Tash Sultana, Tom Walker, Ria Mae, Cub Sport, and Wintersleep. Their songs have been heard in Orange Is The New Black, The New Romantic, and Killjoys. The band released their highly anticipated debut album, Night in the Park, Kiss in the Dark, independently on January 31, 2020. The album features the heavily playlisted single “Landslide”, and has received lots of media buzz from the likes of Billboard, Exclaim, Marilyn Denis Show, and NewNowNext. Their single “Hide Your Love” hit #1 on the CBC Music Top 20 and garnered their producer Derek Hoffman a 2020 JUNO nomination. With a powerful live set not to be missed - Caveboy is a band to keep an eye on.

LETTER FROM THE BAND

Dear You,

It’s been a while! How’ve you been? We’re writing you from our home in Montreal. We miss you and wanted to let you know what we’ve been up to.

Since we released our debut EP in 2015, it feels like we’ve grown so much within Canada’s indie music scene. Our songs have charted among the Top 20 on CBC Music; we’ve played some super memorable shows at major festivals and conferences such as SXSW, Osheaga, Pride Toronto, Halifax Pop Explosion; we had some sweet syncs in The New Romantic, Orange is the New Black, Killjoys; we won the 2017 Allan Slaight Juno Master Class; and we’ve supported some of the best artists such as Japanese Breakfast, Tash Sultana, Tom Walker, Ria Mae, Cub Sport, and Wintersleep. We’re so grateful and proud, and we’re only just getting started!

We’ve always wanted to make a record. We still remember years ago, sitting in our living room, listening to records and saying: one day we’ll have an album of our own. In the early days of the band, we shared a loft to focus full-time on songwriting and rehearsing. We learned a lot during that time - like how curtains aren’t a good substitute for walls - but mainly we bonded over how passionate we were about Caveboy as a project and how excited we were for the chance to share our music with people everywhere. Since then, we released an EP and several singles, always trying to follow the ever-changing “rules” of the industry, but really just fighting our real yearning to create something bigger.

One day, out of nowhere, we decided on our new mantra: fuck the system! We realized that the number of bands in popular music is declining faster and faster each day, and it breaks our hearts. We take so much pride in our D.I.Y. punk approach to being every cog in our machine and we’re tired of worrying if there is room for us. So we decided to follow our gut and put literally everything we had into making an album.

We wrote close to 40 songs and searched high and low for the right producer. We felt like our previous material never managed to reach the sonic level we dreamt of because of our limited budget and experience. We’ve always been so precious about our music and have struggled to let outsiders into our creative process. It dawned on us that we would have to let our guard down to create something truly special. We finally found the collaborative partner we’d been dreaming of in Derek Hoffman (RALPH, The Trews, Arkells). We immediately referred to Derek as the fourth brain of Caveboy. He knew exactly what we wanted; he took what was in our heads and turned it into reality. Our dream team spent six months through the winter of 2018 and 2019 working through all our demos to create the 10-song world of our debut album Night in the Park, Kiss in the Dark. We couldn’t be more proud of it.

We hope there is something on this record for you to relate to, for you to sing along to, for you to scream along to, for you to cry along to, for you to fall in love to, for you to fall out of love to, for you to reconnect to, for you to dance to, and for you to feel it all to.

We’ll continue to put everything we are and everything we have into this band. There is us in everything we do and everything we do is for you. We love you.

PRESS

“What makes this trio so compelling is their focus on pulling in (and reinventing) the pop forebearers of the past, present, and future.” - Beatroute

“The indie pop trio play like rock stars mixing cool 80s, dance, and alt-pop, and almost always rip a good cover song or two in their own fashion.” - APT 613

“Canadian outfit preview their new album with this smooth and sensual Little Dragon-inspired groove” - Mystic Sons

“This is one show you definitely don’t want to miss!” - Indie 88

"Electro-pop with retro sounds is an easy description for this, but the best old-school trait is the hard-earned quality in the songwriting, each track offering substance plus hooks. There's still room for a little dance floor euphoria too, "Landslide" just a joy start to finish. This is a band to love." - Top 100 Canadian
